Babyface Ray is one of the more compelling voices to come out of Detroit's trap scene in recent years. Born Marcellus Rayvon Register, he cut his teeth running with Team Eastside alongside Peezy before grinding through a string of mixtapes that slowly built his rep. The breakthrough came with MIA Season 2, which produced his first viral moment in "Move to LA" before he leveled up with the 2021 EP Unfuckwitable, featuring EST Gee, Moneybagg Yo and Kash Doll, landing him on the Billboard 200 for the first time. His 2022 debut album Face is where things really clicked. It peaked at number 31 on the Billboard 200 and brought together an eclectic roster including Pusha T, Wiz Khalifa, G Herbo and Swedish rapper Yung Lean, which says a lot about his reach beyond Detroit. That same year he landed a spot in the XXL Freshman class and held his own in a cypher with BabyTron, Cochise and Kali. Ray moves at his own pace and it keeps paying off.
