Bad Wolves built their name fast. Formed in Los Angeles in 2017, they landed their breakout moment almost immediately with a cover of the Cranberries' "Zombie", a track that topped the US Billboard Mainstream Rock chart and peaked at number 23 on the Billboard 200. The story behind it is genuinely moving: Cranberries singer Dolores O'Riordan had agreed to record vocals for the cover but passed away before she could. The band donated proceeds to her family. From there, Bad Wolves kept delivering rock radio hits, with "Remember When", "Killing Me Slowly", and "Sober" all topping the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart. The band has been through real turbulence behind the scenes. Original vocalist Tommy Vext departed in early 2021 amid legal disputes involving the label Better Noise Music, and guitarist Chris Cain later followed him out the door. Daniel "DL" Laskiewicz, formerly of The Acacia Strain, stepped in on vocals for their third album Dear Monsters in 2021, and a fourth record, Die About It, followed in 2023. With drummer John Boecklin now the sole remaining founding member, the band has since added Sara "Killboy" Skinner as vocalist and Derek Bolman on bass, and a fifth studio album is in the works.
