About
Daniel Masson, the producer behind the Baul Dimension alias, has been quietly shaping the sound of ethnic deep house and chill electronic music since the early 2000s, with his fingerprints all over the legendary Buddha Bar compilation series. His approach is genuinely globe trotting: he has recorded musicians, sounds and voices in Bangladesh, Syria, Egypt and Morocco, weaving field recordings into electronic soundscapes that feel both adventurous and meditative. His 2016 project Walila took him to Fès, Morocco, where he performed at the Sacred Music Festival and recorded an album that blends electro beats with instruments from Moroccan traditional music. Before all that, he was scoring video game soundtracks for Ubisoft titles like Rayman 2 and Splinter Cell, and composing for the restored version of the first silent film by Georges Méliès. NTS Radio dedicated a full episode to his music in 2022, a nod to how deep his catalogue runs.
