About
James Bay made his name with a voice that cuts right through you and a guitar style rooted in classic rock but never stuck there. His debut album Chaos and the Calm went straight to number one in the UK, powered by the triple platinum single Hold Back the River, and earned him the Brit Award for Best British Male Solo Artist as well as three Grammy nominations in 2016. He recorded the whole thing at Blackbird Studio in Nashville with producer Jacquire King, and the result felt timeless without being retro. His second album Electric Light surprised a lot of people, pulling in pop, R&B and even hip hop flavours alongside his trademark guitar work. He kept pushing further with Leap in 2022, recorded at the historic RCA Studio A in Nashville with producer Dave Cobb, with Brandon Flowers of the Killers dropping in to collaborate. A fourth album, Changes All the Time, followed in 2024, showing no signs of him settling into a comfortable lane.
