About
Beam Splitter is the duo of American vocalist and cellist Audrey Chen and Norwegian trombonist Henrik Munkeby Nørstebø, working at the intersection of contemporary classical music and free improvisation. Their sound revolves around a delicate push and pull: fragility set against ecstatic intensity, precise control giving way to spontaneous release. Chen brings years of classical and conservatory training to a practice centered on non linear storytelling through voice and cello, while Nørstebø navigates the trombone across a vast spectrum, from long sustained tones to near silent, almost electronic textures. The two started collaborating in 2015 and have since toured extensively across Europe, New Zealand, Argentina, Brazil, and the United States. There is something visceral at the core of what they do: breath passing from lungs through mouth to bell and back again, a kind of tactile, physical conversation between two musicians who share a deep instinct for how each moment opens and closes.
