Beanie Sigel built his reputation as one of Philadelphia's sharpest lyricists after signing with Jay Z's Roc A Fella Records in 1998. His debut album The Truth landed in the top five of the Billboard 200 and made it clear he was far more than a footnote in the Roc A Fella story. He also led State Property, a Philly collective he organized alongside Freeway, and the group's film and soundtrack gave him his only Billboard Hot 100 hit, "Roc the Mic". His third album The B. Coming produced his signature track "Feel It in the Air" and sold over 130,000 copies in its first week despite being recorded partly while he was preparing to serve a prison sentence. After parting ways with Roc A Fella, he put out The Broad Street Bully independently in 2009, then later signed with 50 Cent's G Unit before releasing This Time in 2012. His catalog spans several labels and a string of legal troubles, but his raw, unflinching delivery has kept him a respected name in East Coast hip hop.
