Benjamin Alard has built his career around a single, all consuming obsession: the keyboard music of Johann Sebastian Bach. The French organist and harpsichordist won First Prize at the International Harpsichord Competition in Bruges in 2004 and the Gottfried Silbermann Organ Competition in Freiberg in 2007, and since 2005 he has held a residency at the church of Saint Louis en l'Île in Paris, where he performs Bach concerts every season on the Bernard Aubertin organ. His most ambitious project is a complete recorded survey of Bach's solo keyboard and organ works for harmonia mundi, spanning 18 volumes in total. Seven have been released so far, covering everything from the Well Tempered Clavier to the Orgelbüchlein, and each volume pairs the music with carefully chosen historical instruments. The series has earned consistent recognition from major classical publications including Gramophone, which named volumes three and six among its albums of the year. He also performs chamber music with violinist François Fernandez, flautist Emmanuel Pahud, and harpsichordist Elisabeth Joyé.
