About
Also known as: B. Biolay, Benjamin Gérard Fabien Biolay, Biolay, Benjamin
Benjamin Biolay has quietly written, arranged or produced for half of French music's old guard. Juliette Gréco, Julien Clerc, Françoise Hardy, Vanessa Paradis and Nolwenn Leroy have all worked with him, and he co wrote songs on Henri Salvador's hit comeback album Chambre avec Vue. He also wrote and produced the first three albums by his sister Coralie Clément, and the first two by Keren Ann. As a performer he has a low key, understated vocal style that sits close to Étienne Daho. After two more rock leaning albums in 2005 and 2007, his record company dropped him. He answered with the independent La Superbe in 2009, then followed it with the soundtrack album Pourquoi tu pleures in 2011 and Vengeance in 2012. He also acts, and in 2010 he was made an Officer of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. A clip for Juste avant de tomber landed in 2025.
