About

Benjamin Frith has built a reputation as one of Britain's most thoughtful classical pianists, with a discography that spans Bach to Tippett and covers more than 50 concertos. His recordings for Naxos have been particularly well received: his complete John Field piano concertos saw volumes 5 and 6 reach the top of the classical charts in 2002, and his disc of Schumann's Davidsbündlertänze earned the top recommendation on BBC Radio 3's prestigious "Building a Library" programme. Five of his discs appear in the Gramophone Best CD Guide, and Gramophone critic Richard Osborne placed his Beethoven Diabelli Variations recording in elite company, comparing it favourably to Stephen Kovacevich's celebrated 1968 version. Frith is a member of the Gould Piano Trio and holds professorships at both the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, where he is also an Honorary Fellow. His orchestral appearances have taken him to the Berlin Symphony, Israel Philharmonic, and BBC Philharmonic, working alongside conductors including Zubin Mehta.
