Few reggae singers have owned the lovers rock lane quite like Beres Hammond. The Saint Mary, Jamaica native built his name on silky ballads and a vocal style deeply rooted in American soul, and by the time the 1990s rolled around he was one of the genre's defining voices. His 1990 dancehall hit "Tempted to Touch", produced by Donovan Germain for Penthouse Records, remains probably his most recognisable track in the US and UK, and it kicked off a run of albums that cemented his reputation on the international stage. He kept the momentum going well into the 2000s, with Music Is Life featuring Wyclef Jean, and the 2012 album One Love, One Life topping the Billboard Reggae Albums chart and earning a Grammy nomination. In 2013 the Jamaican government awarded him the Order of Jamaica for his contribution to the country's music industry. His 2018 album Never Ending, which brought in players like Dean Fraser and Robbie Lyn, also debuted at number one on that same Billboard chart.
