Big Business runs on two core ingredients: Jared Warren's bass and Coady Willis's drums. The Seattle born, Los Angeles based duo built their sound around what they call a bombastic and frantic style, and somehow a bass drums setup is all they've needed for most of their run. Both Warren and Willis spent time as members of the Melvins starting in 2006, which says plenty about the kind of weight their music carries. Their catalog on Hydra Head Records kicked off with Head for the Shallow in 2005 and ran through Mind the Drift in 2009, with producer Phil Ek behind the desk for all three. They opened for Tool on a summer tour, expanded briefly to a four piece, then quietly stripped back down to a duo. Their most recent album, The Beast You Are, came out in 2019 via Joyful Noise Recordings and Gold Metal Records, and both members have since given extensive career retrospectives in podcast interviews.
