About
Swedish bassist and composer Björn Meyer has built a career that spans some genuinely distinctive corners of contemporary music, from the ritual groove of Nik Bärtsch's RONIN, where he spent over a decade helping shape what became known as Zen Funk, to the ECM recordings of Tunisian oud master Anouar Brahem. Based in Switzerland since 1996, Meyer has been a quietly indispensable collaborator across jazz, world music and experimental improvisation. His first solo album, Provenance, came out on ECM in 2017, and a second solo record, Convergence, is listed for 2026 on the same label. Along the way he co founded the musicians network Bazaarpool with Persian harpist Asita Hamidi, played in the Swedish trio Bazar Blå, and formed the trio Amiira with Samuel Rohrer and Klaus Gesing. He also lectures at conservatories in Stockholm, Zurich, Bern, Lucerne and Lausanne.
