Benjamin John Power makes music under the name Blanck Mass that sits somewhere between drone, industrial noise and electronic dance, and the results tend to be both physically loud and strangely cinematic. He first launched the project while on hiatus from his duo Fuck Buttons, releasing a self titled debut on Mogwai's Rock Action label in 2011. The track 'Sundowner' ended up soundtracking the Opening Ceremony at the 2012 London Olympics, which is a fairly good indication of the scale Power works at. Signing to Sacred Bones for Dumb Flesh in 2015 pushed things heavier, with chopped vocal samples and dancefloor momentum crashing into abrasive textures. Albums like World Eater and Animated Violence Mild kept building on that formula, while a parallel career in film scoring earned him an Ivor Novello award for his work on Calm with Horses. He also briefly joined Editors as a full time member in 2022, contributing to their album EBM before departing in 2025.
