About
Also known as: Anthony Simon, James Anthony Simon, T. Simon, Tony Simon
Blockhead is the guy behind a huge chunk of Aesop Rock's sound, having produced tracks across Float, Labor Days, Bazooka Tooth, None Shall Pass and plenty more, going all the way back to 1999. The two met at Boston University, and that was the moment he quit rapping to focus on beats. The name, by the way, comes from the shape of his head, which he says is not square but pretty close. On his own, the Manhattan producer and DJ releases through Ninja Tune, starting with Music by Cavelight in 2004 and Downtown Science the following year. Since then he has kept a steady flow of records going, from Uncle Tony's Coloring Book and Interludes After Midnight to Space Werewolves Will Be the End of Us All and Luminous Rubble. He also teams up often, with Illogic, Marq Spekt, Billy Woods and Aesop Rock again on Garbology, and he has played in groups like The Mighty Jones.
