About
BLOND:ISH operates at the intersection of deep house and afro house with a sharp environmental conscience baked right into the project. Vivie Ann Bakos launched the act in 2007 and built it into one of the more distinctive names in the underground, releasing records on Kompakt, Get Physical, and Noir while picking up remix commissions from Depeche Mode, Pete Tong, and Maya Jane Coles along the way. Their BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, recorded in a makeshift studio near Tulum, and a headline residency at Pacha Ibiza under the Abracadabra label give a good sense of the scale they operate at. The Bye Bye Plastic Foundation, which Bakos co founded, has convinced over 1,500 DJs to sign an eco rider keeping hundreds of thousands of single use plastic bottles out of venues. The sophomore album Never Walk Alone landed in early 2025, pressed on BioVinyl, a recyclable alternative to conventional vinyl, tying the music directly to the sustainability mission. "Call My Name" won Underground Dance Single of the Year at the Juno Awards of 2024, and recent renegade DJ sets filmed at spots like Joe's Pizza in New York show the project is very much in motion.
