About
Bloodbath formed in Stockholm in 1998 as a death metal supergroup, built around a shared obsession with the raw, punishing sound of classic Swedish death metal. The original lineup read like a who's who of Scandinavian extreme metal: Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth on vocals, Dan Swanö of Edge of Sanity on drums, plus two members of Katatonia in Anders Nyström and Jonas Renkse. In a fitting statement of intent, they wrote and recorded their debut EP Breeding Death within two days of forming. The band has cycled through a few vocalists over the years, including Peter Tägtgren of Hypocrisy, before landing on Nick Holmes of Paradise Lost in 2014. That lineup went on to record three studio albums, including Survival of the Sickest in 2022. Six full length albums in total, all built around a guitar tone shaped by the Boss HM 2 pedal, the secret weapon behind that classic Stockholm crunch. Nyström remains the constant, keeping things raw and spontaneous by design.
