About

Bloody Panda built their reputation on doom metal that feels genuinely unsettling, fronted by Yoshiko Ohara, a visual artist turned vocalist who moved to New York City with recording gear but no prior instrument experience. She recruited bandmates through ads asking for people with "dark personalities," and the resulting sound lives up to that brief. On stage, the band performs in executioner's hoods and robes, and one writer summed up the vibe as Yoko Ono meeting Black Sabbath. Their 2007 debut Pheromone, produced by Jason Marcucci of Flaming Lips and White Stripes fame, set the tone: Ohara sings in both English and Japanese, her chanting more texture than message. Summon followed in 2009 on Profound Lore, pushing further into experimental territory. Terrorizer put it plainly: Bloody Panda may be too experimental to win your heart, but they demand your complete, undivided attention.
