About
Peter Kempe, the singer and drummer at the core of Bluestown Allstars, spent more than forty years touring the world with The Juke Joints, and that wealth of road experience feeds directly into everything the band does. Alongside him are Wouter Verhelst and Ilse van Dooren, known from rootsblues and folk outfit The Blue Clay, plus drummer Marnix Franse, who like Kempe hails from Kwadendamme, and bassist Jules van Brakel, a veteran of Mike and the Mellotones, El Camino and The Hoochies. Between them, these five seasoned players bring a broad palette to the table. Their sets draw on carefully chosen material from artists such as Rory Gallagher, B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Elvis Presley, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, The Nighthawks, Delbert McClinton and Southside Johnny. Instruments spread across the group include guitars, mandolins, harmonica, accordion, bass and percussion, giving the sound plenty of texture. What ties it all together is a shared groove and a no frills directness that comes from musicians who know each other's instincts well.
