Few singles have hit as hard across an entire continent as 'Freestyler' did in 2000. The Finnish breakbeat and hip hop group Bomfunk MC's rode that track to number one in Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, Italy, and Germany, making it the highest selling single in Europe that year. The group centres on rapper B.O. Dubb and producer Jaakko Salovaara, better known as JS16, whose fingerprints are on virtually everything the group put out. Their debut album In Stereo shifted over 600,000 copies and also spawned 'Uprocking Beats' and 'B Boys & Flygirls', all three singles finding an audience in the UK. After two more albums, Burnin' Sneakers and Reverse Psychology, the group went quiet after 2005. Then in 2019 the classic lineup, including DJ Gismo who had left back in 2002, regrouped for festival appearances and debuted new tracks 'Can't Runaway' and 'Mic Drop'. To mark twenty years of 'Freestyler', they also reshot the video in Belgrade, swapping the original Sony mini disc player for a smartphone and flipping the lead character from male to female.
