Bono is the voice and lyrical force behind U2, one of the biggest rock bands to ever come out of Ireland. His singing style is hard to miss, all urgency and emotional weight, and his lyrics have always leaned into big themes: faith, politics, social justice, and personal loss. Songs like "I Will Follow", "Mofo", and "Tomorrow" carry the grief of losing his mother, while much of U2's catalog wrestles openly with religion and conscience in a way few rock acts ever attempted. Outside the band, he has collaborated with artists including Roy Orbison and Tina Turner, and worked with U2 guitarist the Edge on musical theater projects including Spider Man: Turn Off the Dark. His activism is just as central to his public identity as the music, with organizations like the ONE Campaign and Product Red reflecting his long push against extreme poverty and HIV/AIDS in Africa.
