About
Simon Green, the man behind the Bonobo name, has spent over two decades quietly redefining what electronic music can feel like. Working out of Los Angeles, he builds layered, organic sound worlds that borrow freely from jazz, world music and downtempo beats, and then recreates all of it with a full live band on stage. His early records on Tru Thoughts laid the groundwork, but it was Black Sands in 2010 that really broke things open, earning praise for its shift toward live instrumentation and multi layered atmosphere. The sixth album Migration, released in January 2017, pushed him onto bigger stages and into Grammy territory, with nominations for Best Dance/Electronic Album and Best Dance Recording, plus a number 5 peak on the UK charts. His seventh album Fragments followed in 2022, featuring collaborations with Jamila Woods, Jordan Rakei and Joji. Most recently, Green joined Kamasi Washington and Floating Points to score the anime series Lazarus, directed by Shinichiro Watanabe, and an eighth studio album called Distance in Static has been announced.
