Ian Bostridge is a classical and opera singer from London who works across a broad repertoire, with a particular affinity for early music. He performs alongside soprano Anna Prohaska in a semi staged concert centred on Italian early Baroque music, featuring works by two towering figures of the period: Carlo Gesualdo and Claudio Monteverdi. The programme weaves together Monteverdi's chamber opera Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda, a story of two lovers who meet unknowingly in a fight to the death, with the turbulent life story of Gesualdo, the so called dark prince whose personal history was as dramatic as any opera. The Orkest van de Achttiende Eeuw provides the musical backdrop for this theatrically charged evening.
