About
Three friends who got tired of being pitted against each other decided to make something together instead, and boygenius was born. Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus wrote, recorded, and self produced their debut EP in just four days in 2018, working almost exclusively with women, and critics ate it up. NPR Music ranked it among the best albums of that year despite it technically being an EP. The trio reunited for their debut studio album The Record in 2023, and it landed hard. NME called it an instant classic, it topped charts in the UK, Ireland, and the Netherlands, and the group walked away with three Grammy Awards. The single videos for "$20", "Emily I'm Sorry", and "True Blue" were all directed by Kristen Stewart and edited into a short film. Later in 2023 they dropped a second EP, The Rest, and closed out the year with an appearance on Saturday Night Live alongside Timothée Chalamet.
