About
Brendan Canning is one of the co founders of Broken Social Scene, the sprawling Toronto collective that became one of Canada's most celebrated indie rock acts. He co founded the band with Kevin Drew in 1999 and has been part of five of their studio albums, but his work stretches well beyond that. Before Broken Social Scene he was cutting his teeth in bands like hHead and By Divine Right, and he has kept busy on multiple fronts ever since. On his own, Canning has put out three solo records, wrapping up with Home Wrecking Years in 2016, which features fellow Broken Social Scene members Justin Peroff and Sam Goldberg. He also wrote the score for the 2013 film The Canyons, launched his own label Draper Street Records, and has a side project called Cookie Duster. His solo album You Gots 2 Chill tips its hat to EPMD, which gives you a pretty good sense of his range and sense of humour.
