C.W. Stoneking plays a style of blues that feels genuinely out of time, drawing on acoustic blues and boogaloo with an old world theatricality that sets him apart from pretty much anyone else working today. The Melbourne based Australian artist built his sound around original compositions that nod deeply to the pre war blues tradition, backed by his brass and rhythm outfit the Primitive Horn Orchestra. His 2006 debut of originals, King Hokum, turned heads on Australian radio and took out Best Independent Blues Release at the AIR Awards. He kept the momentum going with Jungle Blues, which won Best Blues and Roots Album at the 2009 ARIAs, and then Gon' Boogaloo landed at number 17 on the ARIA Albums Chart and claimed the same award again in 2015. He has also popped up in some unexpected places, lending his voice to a precursor short for the animated series Over The Garden Wall and appearing on Jack White's album Boarding House Reach.
