About
Also known as: Candan Ercetin
Candan Erçetin has spent over two decades crafting Turkish pop with a distinctly personal touch, weaving in Balkan influences that trace back to her Albanian and Macedonian roots. Her Kırklareli origins and family ties to the Balkans show up throughout her work, and she has written songs not just in Turkish but also in French and Greek, including full albums dedicated to each. Her 1999 album Elbette became her best seller, and the follow up single "Gamsız Hayat" from Neden in 2002 cemented her place in the Turkish pop landscape. She made her first major splash representing Turkey at Eurovision 1986 with the group Klips ve Onlar, performing "Halley" to the country's best result at that point. Beyond performing, she has composed film scores, produced TV programmes, taught diction at Galatasaray University, and even served as a Vice Chairman of Galatasaray S.K. France recognised her contributions to cultural ties between the two countries with the Order of Arts and Letters in 2014.
