Caramelos de Cianuro have been one of Venezuela's most enduring rock acts since forming in Caracas in 1991, blending Latin punk and alternative rock into a sound that earned them platinum status at home and a spot in MTV Latin America's Top Ten with the video for "El Último Polvo". Their 2010 self titled album pushed them even further, with the hit "La Casa" bringing in multiple accolades and cementing their reputation across the Spanish speaking world. Over the years the band has weathered lineup changes and real tragedy, most notably the murder of their long time manager Libero Iaizzo in 2012, an event the band spoke about openly despite attempts to censor their remarks on Venezuelan television. Their 2015 album 8 saw them shift toward a softer, post punk direction and landed them several Latin Grammy nominations. Now operating as a core duo of vocalist Asier Cazalis and Pável Tello, they released Control in 2021, recorded between Buenos Aires and Caracas, proving they still have plenty to say.
