About
Also known as: Carmo Rebelo de Andrade, Maria do Carmo Carvalho Rebelo de Andrade
Carminho is the kind of fado singer who refuses to stay in one lane. She's rooted in both traditional and contemporary fado, but her eclectic work also wanders into MPB, jazz and pop, which is why she's often called a crossover artist. Her albums Fado and Alma have sold more than 50,000 copies combined in Portugal, earning Platinum and Gold status. She became a star in Spain too, after guesting on Pablo Alborán's "Perdóname", a number one single on the Spanish charts. Her Brazilian leanings show in collaborations such as the ones with Milton Nascimento on "Cais" and Chico Buarque on "Carolina". In 2023 she picked up a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Portuguese Language Roots Album. Live, she has played WOMADelaide in 2014 and the Gibraltar World Music Festival in 2016, in the unlikely setting of St. Michael's Cave.
