Named after an Australian street busker Van McCann spotted in Sydney as a kid, Catfish and the Bottlemen have turned that quirky origin story into one of the UK's most energetic indie rock acts. The Welsh band broke through with their 2014 debut The Balcony, a record that climbed to number ten on the UK Albums Chart and eventually went Platinum. Singles like "Kathleen", produced by Jim Abbiss who also worked with Arctic Monkeys and Adele, got snapped up by BBC Radio 1 and hit the top of MTV's hottest tracks list. Things moved fast from there. The band picked up the Brit Award for British Breakthrough Act in 2016, the same year their second album The Ride went straight to number one and shifted 300,000 copies in the UK. Their third record, The Balance, landed at number two in 2019. Live, they are a different beast entirely, having played Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo and countless other festivals across multiple continents.
