Cedric Myton is best known for his stunning falsetto, the voice that anchors The Congos, the Jamaican roots reggae group he co founded alongside Roydel Johnson and baritone Watty Burnett. Before that, he had already built up a solid track record, cutting singles with The Bell Stars, forming The Tartans in 1968, and spending years writing and recording with Lincoln Thompson in The Royal Rasses, whose album Humanity made a real mark. When Myton eventually formed The Congos, the results were remarkable. Their debut, Heart of the Congos, was produced by Lee Scratch Perry and turned out to be so strong that Island Records, worried it would overshadow Bob Marley, kept it off shelves. It finally reached a wider audience through releases on Perry's Black Art label and later via Blood and Fire, earning the recognition it always deserved.
