About
Cem Yıldız plays an electric saz and sings over electronics, pushing Anatolian folk into the sound world of Istanbul's city streets. He goes by nicknames like "Acid Dede" and "Electro Ashik", nods to the troubadours and poets of Anatolia, whose tradition of freedom and tolerance he carries on with a modern twist. Some call him a shaman of the modern age. His path started with the album HÜ, made up of Alevi songs, and grew deeper through his work with the groups Orient Expressions and Insanlar. Together with Acid Arab he made the international hits "Stil", "Ejma" and "Atlas". Live, his shows lean on improvisation and mix a shamanic mood with danceable rhythms and acid folk and techno textures. He has played major world music and electronic festivals, from Montreux Jazz Festival to Sonar Barcelona, and his latest album is Alemane.
