About
Chano Domínguez has spent decades building a sound that sits right at the crossroads of jazz and flamenco, and few pianists anywhere have done it as convincingly. Born in Cádiz, he has released over 20 albums as a bandleader and worked alongside names like Wynton Marsalis, Joe Lovano, Paquito D'Rivera and Chucho Valdés. His biggest international moment came in 2000 when his composition "Oye Como Viene" appeared in Fernando Trueba's celebrated documentary Calle 54, putting him in front of a global audience practically overnight. His 2011 Blue Note album Flamenco Sketches earned him a Grammy nomination, and he has picked up three Latin Grammy nods as well, including recognition for his collaborations with flamenco singer Martirio. Beyond recording, Domínguez has taught at Juilliard, the Bogotá Conservatory and the University of Washington, among other institutions. He performs everything from Thelonious Monk to Manuel de Falla, usually in configurations ranging from solo piano to a full quartet or quintet.
