Toronto's Charlotte Day Wilson has a gift for making alternative R&B feel genuinely intimate, and her 2016 EP CDW put that on the map, especially with the song "Work," which picked up a SOCAN Songwriting Prize nomination and a 2018 Prism Prize for its music video. She'd been building quietly before that, collaborating with fellow Toronto acts like BadBadNotGood and Daniel Caesar through her time interning at Arts & Crafts Productions. Her third EP Stone Woman caught the ear of James Blake, who sampled "Falling Apart" on a 2020 track. Her debut album Alpha arrived in 2021, written and produced largely by Wilson herself, and earned her three Juno nominations including Songwriter of the Year. Then came Cyan Blue in 2024 on XL Recordings, a record that drew serious attention, landing a Grammy nomination for Best Engineered Album. The Guardian called it a record of "immense feeling and depth," and it's hard to argue with that.
