About
Cheap Time is a Nashville garage rock outfit built around guitarist and vocalist Jeffrey Novak, and the band has been quietly one of the more interesting acts in the underground rock world since forming in 2006. Their sound pulls from glam rock riffs, power pop hooks, and punk energy, with early records drawing comparisons to Redd Kross and The Quick. Things got more eclectic as they went: the second album had people reaching for The Kinks and Alex Chilton, while the third leaned toward classic punk acts like The Saints and Magazine. They have put out four albums on In the Red Records, from the self titled debut in 2008 through to Exit Smiles in 2013, plus a stack of seven inch singles. Along the way they toured with Jay Reatard, Yo La Tengo, Guitar Wolf, and Mudhoney, which tells you plenty about where they sit in the rock landscape.
