About
Melbourne's Nick Murphy built something rare under the Chet Faker name: a sound that blends soul, downtempo electronica and trip hop in a way that feels genuinely intimate rather than clinical. His cover of Blackstreet's "No Diggity" went viral in 2011 and set the tone, and his 2014 debut album Built on Glass cemented that promise by debuting at number one on the Australian ARIA Charts. Three tracks from the album cracked the top ten of Triple J's Hottest 100 that year, with "Talk Is Cheap" taking the top spot. In 2016 he shelved the Chet Faker name to release music as Nick Murphy, putting out the album Run Fast Sleep Naked and a surprise instrumental record through the Calm meditation app. Then in 2020 he quietly brought Chet Faker back with the single "Low", followed by "Get High" in early 2021. It felt less like a rebrand and more like returning to a voice that still had things to say.
