Childish Gambino, the musical alias of Donald Glover, has built a reputation for refusing to stay in one lane. Spanning hip hop, R&B, neo soul, and everything in between, his catalogue is as restless as it is distinctive. His 2016 track "Redbone" earned him a Grammy for Best Traditional R&B Performance, and "This Is America" became a genuine cultural moment. After years of signalling a farewell to the Gambino name, Glover finally delivered that goodbye with Bando Stone and the New World in 2024, his fifth and final album under the alias. He described it as a "big goodbye album", built around anthemic songs designed to fill large rooms and bring people together. The album doubles as the soundtrack to a film of the same name, with Glover playing Bando Stone, a musician navigating a post apocalyptic world. Musically it pulls from trap, indie pop, hyperpop, rock, Afrobeats and jazz, leading Variety to call it his best and most far reaching project to date.
