About
Chimaera Trio is a Dutch chamber group built around an unusual lineup: clarinet, cello and piano. Annemiek de Bruin plays clarinet, Irene Kok cello and Laurens de Man piano. They met at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and have worked together since 2012, making a point of championing this mix of wind, string and keyboard sound. The blend gives them a wide, nuanced palette of colours that sets them apart from the more familiar chamber formats. They have played at the Internationaal Kamermuziekfestival Utrecht and the Grachtenfestival Amsterdam, and their performances have been broadcast on NTR Radio 4. Their programmes can be thematic, like one centred on French music from around 1900 with works by César Franck and Gabriel Fauré, where warm, lyrical melodies give way to quieter, dreamier stretches. Pianist Laurens de Man was also an Artist in Residence at Goede Rede Concerten.
