About
One half of Kid 'n Play, Christopher "Play" Martin spent the late 1980s and early 1990s trading rhymes and high kicks with his partner Kid as one of hip hop's most recognizable duos. Together they dropped three albums, starting with 2 Hype in 1988, and parlayed their chemistry into a string of House Party films that blended comedy and rap in a way that felt fresh at the time. Play's stage name traces back to his earlier MC alias Playboy, picked up while running with a group called Quicksilver and the Super Lovers. After the duo called it quits in 1995, Martin took a sharp turn into Christian hip hop following a born again conversion, and later launched HP4 Digital, a production company covering film, digital media, and theater. He also studied acting at HB Studio in New York City, which fed into roles in independent film and television, including a recurring part in the BET series Bigger in 2021.
