Christopher Owens spent years as the heart of San Francisco indie rock band Girls, writing and fronting the group through two albums and an EP before stepping out on his own in 2012. Girls' debut single "Lust For Life" and the album Father, Son, Holy Ghost built a devoted following, and when Owens announced he was going solo, the curiosity around what he would do next was real. His debut solo record Lysandre told the story of Girls' first tour in 2008, named after a woman he met in France, and he described it as "a coming of age story, a road trip story, a love story." Three more solo albums followed over the next decade, with the fourth, I Wanna Run Barefoot Through Your Hair, arriving in late 2024 alongside his return to True Panther Sounds, the label that put out Girls' earliest recordings.
