About
Toronto based DJ and producer Ciel, aka Cindy Li, makes fast paced electronic and dance music built around percussive sampling, lead synths, and bass heavy textures. Her 2017 debut EP Electrical Encounters drew strong reviews, and she followed it with Hundred Flowers in 2018, which landed on several best of year lists for electronic records. That same year, her mix Radio Buttons #20 was singled out by Pitchfork for its atmosphere and pacing. Beyond her solo work, Ciel has collaborated with fellow Canadian producers D. Tiffany and Dan Only under the names Psychedelic Budz and Cloudsteppers. She also founded the label Parallel Minds and created Work in Progress, a Toronto event series dedicated exclusively to women identifying artists, pushing back against the all male lineups that dominated so many club nights. Her post punk and shoegaze influences quietly run underneath all of it.
