Cloud Cafe won the Amsterdamse Popprijs competition in November 2022, and that momentum clearly meant something. The Amsterdam indie rock four piece signed to Excelsior Recordings, dropped their debut single In Over Your Head shortly after, and followed it with a self titled EP in March 2023, recorded by the band themselves in Haarlem. Their sound sits somewhere between folk rock and grunge folk, drawing comparisons to Big Thief, with strong melodies that critic Menno Pot of de Volkskrant singled out as a highlight. Their debut album Gift Horse arrived in September 2024 and landed as one of the best Dutch debuts of that year according to de Volkskrant. The band also played festivals including Into The Great Wide Open and Left of the Dial alongside a Dutch club tour taking in venues like Bitterzoet, EKKO and Merleyn.
