About
Corinne Staal is a pianist and composer whose work centres on Frisian language and culture. For over thirty years she has collaborated with singer Frederike Kleefstra, setting poetry by various Frisian poets to music that moves between playful and deeply moving, always with her own harmonic warmth and swing. Together they staged productions including Twa, Op syk nei Eeltsje, Weemoed en Irony, and Oerémis between 1992 and 2007, and recorded the albums Hoe fyn ik wurden? and Hûndert kear dyn namme. Their concerts have taken them to organisations such as Het Fryske Boek and the AFUK, as well as to audiences outside Friesland with a shared interest in the region's language and culture. More recently, Staal has been part of the ensemble de Krystreizgers, performing during the Christmas season.
