About

Few thrash metal bands ever got as technically ambitious as Coroner. The Zürich trio spent the late 1980s and early 1990s weaving jazz, classical music, progressive rock, and industrial metal into their thrash framework so thoroughly that they earned the nickname 'the Rush of thrash metal' and are credited alongside Voivod and Watchtower with pioneering technical thrash metal as a subgenre. Their MTV Headbangers Ball rotation included a genuinely wild cover of the Beatles' 'I Want You (She's So Heavy)', and albums like Mental Vortex and Grin showed a band pushing further into progressive territory with every release. After disbanding in 1996, Coroner reunited in 2010 and spent years primarily playing live while a new studio record slowly took shape. That album, Dissonance Theory, finally arrived in October 2025, a full 32 years after Grin, with recent uploads of tracks like 'Consequence' and 'Sacrificial Lamb' giving fans a taste of where the band had taken their sound.
