Carlo Waibel, who performs as Cro, blends rap and pop into what he calls "raop", a sound that made him one of the more distinctive voices to come out of Germany in the early 2010s. He is instantly recognizable for wearing a panda mask on stage, a signature that stuck from his first tour dates. His 2011 track "Easy" exploded on YouTube, racking up 12 million views by early 2012 and landing at number two in the German singles chart. His debut album Raop followed in July 2012 and went platinum in Germany, while singles like "Du" and "Einmal um die Welt" piled up in the Top 100 alongside it. Beyond music, Cro runs his own fashion label VioVio and has collaborated with H&M on a clothing collection. He designed a one off Mercedes Benz CLA that ended up in the Mercedes Benz Museum in Stuttgart, and in 2016 he appeared in the German film Unsere Zeit ist jetzt alongside actor Til Schweiger. In 2017 he held his first art exhibition in Berlin, showing paintings and painted masks at the Circle Culture Gallery.
