Formed in the western suburbs of Sydney in 1992, Cryogenic carved out a serious reputation on the Australian thrash and death metal scene through relentless touring and a knack for landing support slots with some heavy hitters. Their debut album Suspended Animation came together in early 1997 after a string of lineup changes, including a last minute vocal overhaul when ex Mortality singer Darren Maloney stepped in to re record the whole thing just before release. The record took them on the road with Fear Factory, Strapping Young Lad, Cradle of Filth, Entombed and eventually Slayer, plus shows in South Africa, England and Germany. Their second album ego noria dropped in 1999, the same year they played the Sydney Big Day Out, and they kept that festival slot for two more years running. The band also appeared three times at Metal for the Brain, Australia's biggest heavy metal festival. After a series of lineup upheavals in the early 2000s, the remaining members relocated to Los Angeles and continued under a new name, In The Name Of, until that project folded in 2005.
