About
Also known as: Cultura Profetica
Formed in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1996, Cultura Profética built their reputation as a reggae band that refuses to stay in one lane. Founding members Willy Rodríguez, Eliut González, and Omar Silva have kept the group together through years of lineup shifts, and their catalog stretches from roots reggae into bossa nova, jazz, tango, and salsa. Lyrically they move between sharp socio political commentary on Latin American identity and environmental issues, and more intimate songs about love and relationships. They were the first Spanish language act to record at Bob Marley's Tuff Gong studios in Jamaica. Their 2005 album M.O.T.A. cracked the Billboard Hot Latin Albums chart at number 12 and helped them build a serious following across Latin America, especially in Argentina. The 2010 release La Dulzura leaned into romance and gave them the radio hit "La Complicidad". Their most recent album, Sobrevolando, came out in November 2019, and recent uploads suggest they have been keeping busy with new material including "Ilegal" in 2025.
