Under the name Culture Shock, James Pountney has built a solid reputation in drum and bass, signing with RAM Records after catching the ear of the label's CEO Andy C. His debut on the label, the 2007 EP 'The Third Stage', already showed range, including the track 'Rework' made with the Brookes Brothers. He had been releasing on Moving Shadow before that, starting with 'The Vega EP' back in 2004. His track 'City Lights' is a good example of his patience with material: he'd been playing it as an instrumental in DJ sets since 2009 before Virgin EMI finally released it in 2015 with vocals from Bryn Christopher of I See MONSTAS. It picked up serious radio play and landed BBC Radio 1's Track of the Day. Late 2015 brought the Transit EP, adding more weight to a catalogue that keeps growing.
