Curtis Harding calls his sound "slop 'n' soul", a phrase he coined to capture how he threads soul, blues, gospel, psychedelia and rock into something that feels rooted in Southern culture without being easy to pin down. He came up backing CeeLo Green in the early 2000s, touring alongside Outkast and Lauryn Hill, then spent years honing a rawer instinct in Atlanta with garage rock band Night Sun before going solo. His 2014 debut Soul Power on Burger Records drew strong notices for how effortlessly it blended genres, and his follow up Face Your Fear landed with real weight, produced with Danger Mouse and Sam Cohen and named one of NPR Music's ten best R&B albums of 2017. NPR singled out his direct, earnest delivery and his ease with classic soul. Lately he has been putting out new music steadily, with singles dropping through 2025 and a full album called Out In The Black arriving that same year.
