Curumin, the São Paulo musician born Luciano Nakata Albuquerque, has built a sound that refuses to sit still. His records pull samba percussion, American funk basslines, psychedelic rock textures and electronic production into a single coherent world, a blend that got him called "one of the most astute young musicians in São Paulo" by The New York Times. His debut Achados e Perdidos landed in 2005 and was picked up by U.S. label Quannum Projects, opening doors in North America, Europe and Japan almost immediately. From there he kept pushing. JapanPopShow drew coverage from Billboard for its kaleidoscopic mix of samba, funk and hip hop, while 2017's Boca scored a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Portuguese Language Rock or Alternative Album. His 2024 release Pedra de Selva earned a spot among the APCA selections for best Brazilian albums of the year, proof that he is still very much in motion.
