About
Also known as: D.Double.E
D Double E is one of grime's most respected voices, the kind of MC that other MCs point to when someone asks who the greats are. Skepta has called him the greatest of all time, and Dizzee Rascal credits him as one of the artists who inspired him to start MCing in the first place. Based in Forest Gate, East London, he came up through jungle and UK garage before helping to shape what grime became, passing through crews like N.A.S.T.Y Crew and 187 Crew along the way. He is probably best known for his duo Newham Generals, which he runs alongside Footsie and which is signed to Dizzee Rascal's Dirtee Stank label. As a solo artist he has put out tracks like "Street Fighter Riddim", "Bluku Bluku" and "Lovely Jubbly", and his distinctive vocalisations, think "bud a bup bup" and "it's mree mree", are instantly recognisable to anyone deep in the grime scene. In 2019 IKEA tapped him to score a Christmas campaign, making it the first time grime featured in seasonal advertising.
